Sweet Treats and Doula Meets. That's what families received at the Doula Speed Dating event hosted by the Tampa Bay Birth Network on December 3rd at Community Roots Collective in Tampa, FL.
A birth doula is a highly trained professional who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a mother before, during and just after birth. Studies show that when doulas attend births labors are smoother, with fewer complications and mothers are more satisfied with their birth experiences.
This event provided expecting families the opportunity to interview potential doulas in a lively speed dating format all in one place.
Each pregnant person and partner met with doulas from the community, where families chatted with each doula for several minutes. When time was up, they moved along to the next doula!
Doulas who signed up to attend the event provided families with printed information including a biography, a photo, and contact info so that families could review everything beyond the few minutes of conversation at the event.
When they weren't chatting, everyone enjoyed delicious sweet treats, including cupcakes from Sugar & Feist.
The event was a lot of fun for families and doulas!
Expecting parents were able to meet several potential doulas, and doulas had the opportunity to chat with multiple prospective clients. It was also an opportunity for doulas to network.
This was the second time the TBBN has held this event. Families who are interested in attending an event like this in the future can keep an eye on our Community Calendar and Facebook page, or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
