Meet Suncoast Waldorf School: 2015 Natural Birth & Baby Expo Sponsor

Tampa Bay Birth Network is proud to present the 2015 Natural Birth & Baby Expo with the help of our amazing sponsors! This incredibly popular community event is only made possible thanks to the generous support of business like the one featured below.  Thank you!

Suncoast Waldorf School is an independent, non-sectarian school that serves children from birth to grade five and is associated with the world-wide Waldorf school movement begun in Germany in 1919.

Waldorf education is now the fastest growing, independent educational movement in the world, offering the full range of education for children from three to 18 years of age. Waldorf schools, always begun by groups of parents and teachers, are now found in 83 different countries. Each school is autonomous but is linked to all other Waldorf schools through the common vision that this schooling can help children to become free-thinking, socially-responsible, and strong-willed adults.

Suncoast Waldorf School opened in 1998 in space rented from the Unitarian Universalists of Clearwater. In 2006 the school purchased a building and tree-shaded property at 1857 Curlew Road in Palm Harbor. Now two classroom buildings house Parent/Child Playgroups, a nursery, two kindergartens and grades one through five.

"We want to support organizations whose values are in line with our Waldorf values for families and children.  It is also an opportunity for our school, the only Waldorf school in the Tampa Bay area, to have a presence so that parents know we are here," said Barbara Bedingfield, founding director.

"The times of conception, birth and infancy are critical periods in the life of a child that have a lifetime effect. Particularly as educators of children we see the results that come from the time periods of  pregnancy, birth and infancy as soon as children enter school.  We know how important it is for children to have a start in life that is human-connected, healthy, warm and loving," she added.

Suncoast Waldorf School's special parent/child program, called "Merrily We Meet," is growing quickly! Embracing the wonder of early childhood, babies and toddlers, along with their parent or primary caregiver, enjoy a peaceful morning enriched with song, verse, snack and play.  The school is also on the hunt for a space in St. Petersburg to expand this popular program.
