Community Partner: Nourish Yoga

Nourish Yoga enhances maternal-newborn health and bonding by providing yoga, meditation, labor and lactation education. Their workshop focuses the woman's mind, body, spirit and prepares her for the most extraordinary and memorable day of her life, the birth of her child.

According to Mayo Clinic, prenatal yoga:

  • Improves sleep
  • Reduces stress and anxiety
  • Increases the strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth
  • Decreases lower back pain, nausea, carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches and shortness of breath
  • Decreases the risk of preterm labor, pregnancy-induced hypertension and intrauterine growth restriction - a condition that slows a baby's growth

Nourish Yoga empowers soon-to-be mothers by offering an holistic, all-encompassing prenatal yoga and educational experience. More than just your basic prenatal yoga class, the workshop provides a breakdown of the most beneficial prenatal yoga poses that will help prepare the body for birth. They also review safety and poses to avoid during pregnancy. Following the pose breakdown, the team will guide you through a prenatal yoga practice that will leave you feeling both invigorated and relaxed. After a guided birthing meditation, the workshop closes  with a tea time Q&A session hosted by a labor nurse and a lactation consultant.

Combined, owners Kaitlin and Stephanie share 11 years of experience working in women's health as nurses. Although working in and respecting western medicine, they both have a strong passion for holistic health. Learning about the astronomical holistic benefits of yoga, they felt passionately that they had an ethical obligation to share it with others.

Stephanie Wiggins is a postpartum nurse and lactation consultant at a local hospital. She is also a reiki practitioner and studied in Nicaragua for her yoga teaching certification.

Kaitlin Brennan's experience delivering her own child in a natural and loving setting inspired her eight-year career as a labor and delivery nurse and her passion for women's health and delivery. She currently teaches classes on natural labor positioning to her hospital staff as well as other classes that focus on empowering women throughout pregnancy and delivery. She is a yoga instructor, currently instructing prenatal yoga and a variety of other classes.

 

Nourish Yoga teaches at a Morton Plant's community room, located at 300 Pinellas Street, Clearwater, 33756. The community room is located inside the Powell Pavilion. In the future, they hope to extend to a variety of other hospitals, birthing centers, yoga studios and other vendors.

Nourish Yoga & Wellness Prenatal Yoga Workshop

1st Saturday from 1-3pm and 2nd Sunday 9-11am of each month.
